Testimonials

“I came to Blain seeking assistance with my search for a new therapist.  Prior to working with Blain, I received a referral from my company’s employment assistance program (EAP).  Unfortunately, the referral provided was not a positive experience, and the thought of trying to find someone on my own who met my criteria felt overwhelming, which is what led me to Blain at BHN.

During our consultation, Blain was inquisitive without being invasive. He made sure to understand my concerns regarding treatment, type of provider and setting as well as my history and goals.  Based on our discussion and his assessment, Blain spoke with a number of therapists on my behalf before providing me with several options. All the referrals met my criteria, and I am happy to say the therapist I selected is a great fit and exactly what I was looking for – Blain nailed it! I would highly recommend having Blain navigate the many options available when seeking mental health treatment, with him on your side finding help is more attainable.”

“I reached out to Blain at BHN because I was feeling frustrated and unhappy both personally and professionally after relocating to the metro area for a new job.  I knew I needed things to change, but as a busy executive that works long hours, I didn’t feel I had the time or the energy to figure out what I needed to do to feel better about my life.
In my initial assessment, Blain asked a number of questions that ultimately helped me to articulate what was at the root of my frustration and dissatisfaction.  From there, he worked with me to address each underlying issue. Together, we worked through how to better manage my anxiety and created a wellness and self-care action plan, which included finding a primary care physician as well as nutrition and exercise programs.

Blain acted as a sounding board and helped me fully and rationally weigh the pros and cons of breaking my lease outside of the city to address my feelings of social isolation when I was planning my move into Manhattan. Finally, through our sessions he helped me to understand the underlying causes of my professional frustration and shared strategies to address them, including a referral to an executive coach and a great female therapist who I am now working with as well.  In addition to providing guidance and referrals, he held me accountable and would follow up to make sure I was implementing the strategies and actions we discussed in our sessions. As someone who tends to put herself last, this follow-up was invaluable.

What was so great about working with Blain was being able to say “I have a problem and I don’t know what to do about it” and that was all he needed for us to get started.  Additionally, he helped me find the support that was best for me – at times working with me directly and other times referring me to someone else where additional specialization was more appropriate.  I truly felt he was on my side and was able to help me navigate an overwhelming number of choices to find the best treatment for me.”
